The infrared image above was scanned with an iR camera aprox. 1 mile
of a stretch of overburden at the edge of a strip mine pit.  Areas of spontaneous
combustion can clearly  be seen. Surface temperatures of up to 210ºC
were detected during the survey. This scan was carried out prior to
rehabilitation to determine those areas to be excluded from the rehabilitation action.
